Hebrew School Committee

The Hebrew School Committee consists of Rabbi David Steinberg, who is our Hebrew School Principal, and members of the congregation, including parents of children enrolled in the Hebrew School. We oversee the education of students enrolled in the Hebrew School and work closely with the principal to help shape the budget, schedule, calendar, curriculum and policies. In addition, the committee seeks creative ways to enhance the overall experience for the students and families of Ohavi Zedek.. Some key highlights of the  2006-2007 school year include:

•  Revised the Parent Handbook.
•  Conducted a mid-year parent/student survey.
•  Approved an updated curriculum.
•  Engaged in extracurricular activities.

During 2007-2008 the Hebrew School Committee is focusing on the following:

• Continuing to gather input from students and parents related to the curriculum, electives, schedule and climate of the school.
• Planning continued extracurricular activities for the students.
• Creating better communication by connecting with other committees, particularly Youth, Library, Religious and Technology, to help support the mission and goals of the synagogue.
• Enhancing classroom environments through additional teacher training and support.
• Evaluating the revised curriculum.
• Exploring the possibility of a student-centered art project in the synagogue near the Hebrew School classrooms, done in conjunction with a local artist.
