Adult
Education CommitteeThe mission
of the Adult Education Committee reflects Judaism’s historic commitment
to life-long learning. Our understanding of Talmud Torah, traditional
Jewish learning, includes programs devoted to traditional subjects such as the
Hebrew language as well as lecturers and scholars-in-residence who address
contemporary questions related to Judaism and the world in which we live.
Rabbi Joshua Chasan consults with other staff and members of the congregation
to identify specific areas of interest. In the near future, we are
hoping to bring to OZ a journalist or scholar to talk about the origins of Zionism.
We are also talking with a biblical scholar from Brandeis University about sharing
a Shabbat with us. Rabbi Joshua currently is teaching an introductory Hebrew
class for adults on Wednesday afternoons during Hebrew School, as well as a learners’
minyan on the last Thursday evening of each month at 7:00pm to help people attending
our weekday services understand what is going on. If you are interested
in serving as chair of the Adult Education Committee, serving on a revived Adult
Education Committee, and/or if you have any suggestions for particular classes,
please email Rabbi
Joshua or call him at 864-0218 ext. 23.
